Problems
Problems
with sending or receiving e-mails
- If
you are experiencing problems sending or receiving e-mails,
please look at the 'Emails and Message Boards' section of
this help menu where you will see the most common questions
answered
I've
received a 'failure notice' in response to the email that
I sent to my friend...
- Any
email that you write will be sent to the email address that
your friend has registered with us.
- It
is possible that they have changed their email address and
forgotten to update their details on the site.
- This
is our only way of contacting our members but it is always
worth trying again from time to time incase they decide
to update their email address within their FriendsReunited
registration details.
I
don't get any replies to emails that I send...
- Any
email that you write will be sent to the email address
that your friend has registered with us.
- If
you have the junk mail filter in your email account
set to high it will be automatically deleting any
unrecognised emails including any confirmations of
your sent emails, new contacts or newsletters from
SrilankanReunited.
- If
you would like to correct this, you can amend the
junk mail filter to a medium level and test if this
has resolved the issue by sending yourself a contact
email through the site.
Can
I send an email regarding a reunion to a group of people at
the same time?
- Unfortunately
we are unable to add a bulk email facility to the site,
as this would put our members at risk from unsolicited spam
emails.
There just wouldn't be a way that we could be absolutely
certain who was bonafide or not and could not afford to
jeopardise the integrity of the site.
- We
have looked into introducing this facility for organisers
of reunions but with over 10,000 schools now listed on the
site and so many reunions being organised within these schools
this would be too large a task for us to support.
- It
is still possible that we may introduce this facility some
time in the future and if we do, we will announce full details
in one of our regular newsletters.
I'd
like a copy of an email that I sent/received a while ago but
have now deleted...
- Unfortunately,
we are unable to recreate copies of emails sent between
our members, as we don't actually keep records of our members'
private emails.
Can
I send a photo or attachment with my email?
- Unfortunately,
attachments cannot be made to contact emails sent
through SrilankanReunited as this would make the site
vulnerable to infection from viruses.
- However,
after the initial contact, you will be conversing
with your friend through normal email methods and
will be able to add attachments then.
Why
can't I find my school?
- To
search for a school, It is best to enter the most unique
part of your school's name - for example, if your school's
name is 'Jaffna / Hindu Collegel' then we would suggest
that you enter 'Jaffna / Hindu' rather than 'Hindu' since
many school names may include this word.
- The
best way to search for some schools with more common names,
for example 'Hindu College', is to look under the relevant
region and area
If you still cannot find your school listed then it could
be that it has closed down or it has been renamed and nobody
has yet asked for the school to be listed.
- If
there is a particular school that you would like added,
please send the FULL SCHOOL NAME AND FULL SCHOOL ADDRESS
TOGETHER WITH THE SCHOOL TYPE (INFANT, PRIMARY, SECONDARY,
COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY), and we will manually add it to the
database.

Board
What
is the School Message Board?
- You
will find this after your school's pupil list on its individual
page.
This is where upgraded members can add general messages
regarding the school or ex-pupils for everyone to see.
- Any
replies to the message are shown on the message board as
opposed to being sent to the author of the message.
Why
has my message been removed from my school message or memory
board?
- We're
sorry if you have been disappointed by the removal of your
message.
- Our
members report many thousands of messages to us every day
through the 'report abusive message' button displayed on
the website.
- Any
member is free to report any message. The message is immediately
removed but is then reviewed by our team.
- Of
course, this can tend to be the 'reporter's' personal opinion
and the question we have to ask ourselves is 'Does this
contain anything which, if untrue, would tend to harm the
reputation of the person about whom it is said?'. If the
answer is yes, then the material is permanently removed
from the site.
- At
present, the originator of the message is not advised when
the message is removed but this may be a service that we
will introduce in the future.
- Due
to the large volume of messages we are reviewing, it is
not possible to investigate individual cases.
How
can I remove a message from my school message board?
- You
can remove messages on the boards by clicking on the message's
title and then on the 'report abusive message' button.
- You
then get the option to add a short text as to why you would
like the message removed (not necessarily because of abusive
content).
The message will be removed immediately and we will review
it.

Others
Why
is there a 150kb limit for photos?
- The
limit is necessary to ensure the page loads as fast as possible.
- As
the number of images on the page grows, it puts intense
strain on our servers to send the images to your browser,
and makes the page load very slowly.
- Therefore
we need to keep the images as small as possible for efficiency.
- It
would be almost impossible for us to give exact directions
for every different photo editing software package. However,
the vast majority will allow you to resize your image. We
recommend you select a width of around 800/900pixles. You
should be able to select the resize function from the 'Tools'
menu of your photo software (this may vary according to
software used).
